When the first intrepid pioneers and prospectors came to the Black Hills, they called the ancient mountain range an "emerald oasis," an "island of green in a sea of prairie." Explored by George Armstrong Custer in 1874, it was the final region in the United States to be mapped. It was a strikingly beautiful land, teeming with wildlife, covered with ponderosa forests and protected by towering granite peaks.

One hundred and thirty-one years later, the Black Hills are still a pristine mountain range marked by an epic beauty all their own, a place where you can still find your own adventure just over the next ridge.
