Black Hills News StoriesGo back to News ArticlesRodeo Finalists to compete in Rapid CityThe best of rodeo action is coming to the Pennington County Events Center in Rapid City. The South Dakota Rodeo Association Championship Finals will be held October 23-25, 2009. Only the top twelve contestants in each of a dozen events qualify for this season-ending rodeo finale.![]() These top twelve have earned the right to compete at the finals by earning the most points, based on dollars won at SDRA rodeos throughout the past four months. At the completion of the finals, a champion will be named in each event. Performances at the SDRA Championship rodeo finals will be at 7:00PM on Friday and Saturday, October 23rd and 24th and at 1:00PM on Sunday, October 25th. Reserved seating will be available by contacting ticket outlets and general admission tickets can be purchased at the door. The Dakota Cowboy Christmas trade show will be held in conjunction with the SDRA finals rodeo. The trade show, located in the Events Center, will be open throughout the weekend. The SDRA finals rodeo will be fortunate to have royalty in attendance including Courtney Smith, Miss Rodeo South Dakota. On Sunday morning there will be a Cowboy Christian church service followed by the special events brunch and horse and buggy rides. The Sunday rodeo performance is also designated as the Tough Enough to Wear Pink performance in honor of breast cancer awareness. The SDRA was established in 1955 to help organize rodeo contestants, committees and stock contractors of South Dakota for their mutual protection and benefit. The primary purpose of the SDRA is to help raise the standards of cowboy contests so they shall rank among the foremost American sports. The SDRA will continue to work for the betterment of conditions and of the rules governing rodeo events.
