Deadwood Oktoberfest Scheduled October 2-4
DEADWOOD, S.D. (9/23/09) When the leaves start to turn in the Black Hills, it's a sign that Deadwood's annual Oktoberfest is just around the corner. The German celebration comes to historic Deadwood Oct. 2-4 this year.
 Events include free Polka fests, bratwurst giveaways and a German food cook-off. Beer Barrel Games and a beer belly and wife-carrying contest will take place downtown. For many, the highlight event of the weekend will be the 3rd annual Wiener Dog Races.
"This is one of the most fun events we have in Deadwood. Great Polka music, great food, absolutely hilarious games and contests and my personal favorite, the wiener dog races; theres definitely something for everyone at Oktoberfest in Deadwood,"said Sarah Anderson, Deadwood Chambers event coordinator. "We definitely try to welcome October and the fall with a big celebration."
The City of Deadwood will relax its open container ordinance during Saturday's celebration.
Registration is now open for teams looking to participate in the beer barrel games and other contests, as well as the Wiener Dog Races.

Friday, October 2nd, 2009
Noon to 4 p.m. -- Oktober Polka Fest at Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
6 p.m. -- Brat giveaway at Oyster Bay.
5 to 9 p.m. -- Oktober Polka Fest at the Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
8 p.m. -- Beer Belly Contest at Oyster Bay.
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
11:30 a.m. -- Registration for the Wiener Dog Races on Main St in front of Bullock Hotel.
Noon -- Brat giveaway at Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
Noon to 4 p.m. -- Oktober Polka Fest at Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
1 p.m. -- 3rd Annual Wiener Dog Races kick off on Main Street in front of the Bullock Hotel.
2 p.m. -- Registration for the Beer Barrel Games (keg rolling, strudel eating, stein holding, brat throwing, tray running and more) in front of the Gold Dust.
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- German Cook-Off at various locations.
3 p.m. -- The 3rd Annual Beer Barrel Games kick off on Main Street in front of the Gold Dust.
6 p.m. -- Awards at the Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
5 to 9 p.m. -- Oktober Polka Fest at Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
8 p.m. -- Wife Carrying Contest at Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
Sunday October 4th 2009
Noon to 12-5 p.m.: Oktober Polka Fest at Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall.
Third Annual Weiner Dog Races
WHEN: Saturday, October 3rd at 1 p.m.
WHERE: Historic Main Street, in Deadwood.
COST: $5 donation, with all proceeds to benefit the Twin City Animal shelter.
Registration will begin at 11:30 p.m., racing starts at 1 p.m.
* Race divisions are mini or standard. Costumes welcome - prize awarded to best dressed dog!
