Learning Lunch: Chocolate at the Adams Museum

DEADWOOD – On Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Adams Museum invites children in grades K – 5 to join Mary “Chip” Tautkus for a chocolate workshop.

During the workshop, children will talk about chocolate, make chocolate and eat chocolate. The workshop is $10 per child or $18 for two children in the same family. Children of Adams Museum & House members may attend for the reduced price of $5 per child.

The workshop will be lead by Mary “Chip” Tautkus, owner and chocolatier at Chubby Chipmunk Hand-Dipped Chocolates in Deadwood. Chip has been in love with chocolate since she could pronounce the word. She arrived in the Black Hills in 1990 and although her career was as a nurse, she was concocting irresistible delicacies for friends during her off hours.

Her passion is hand-dipped truffles, homemade toffee and caramel. Chubby Chipmunk Hand-Dipped Chocolates was born in 2004 from that love and Chip’s need to share her treasures with the public. Most days she can be found in her sunny Deadwood kitchen dreaming up more ways to make folks swoon, sway and sigh in chocolate delight.

This event is co-sponsored by the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, Rapid City Journal, Black Hills Pioneer and Chubby Chipmunk Hand-Dipped Chocolates.

Space is limited; please contact Anne Rogers, museum educator at 605-578-1928 for reservations.
