BHB&L Association Plans Annual Meeting

Event will be Friday, Oct. 30

RAPID CITY, S.D. (10/7/09) — Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Association will conduct its 70th Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn, beginning at 9 a.m.

Financed almost entirely by private tourism operators, the organization places advertising, publishes three visitor magazines including the South Dakota Vacation Guide and conducts press activities and direct sales programs to generate tourist traffic.

The Association currently lists 500 member businesses in western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, and has an operating budget of $1.8 million.

During the business meeting, members and the Board of Directors will recap 2009 promotions, elect next year’s Board of Directors, name officers, then outline the Association’s 2010 program of work. That agenda is expected to debut BHB&L’s 2010 winter magazine, Romancing the Snow; introduce a new “Great American Road Trip” marketing platform; and describe additional facets of online marketing.

Following the business meeting, members will gather for a luncheon to celebrate the 2009 tourist season and to honor the recipient of the Association’s Special Achievement Award and inductees into the Black Hills Tourism Pioneers hall of fame.

The BHB&L Association is a private, non-profit corporation headquartered at the Black Hills Visitor Information Center in Rapid City, and employs a staff of 11 full-time and nine seasonal employees to implement Black Hills tourist promotions.

The Association was chartered on Dec. 23, 1939, in Deadwood, by prominent business leaders of the Black Hills who cited the need to promote all of western South Dakota as a vacation destination.
