(1/19/2009) - Besides being honored as the top Cajun chef in Deadwood, the 2010 winner of Deadwood's Mardi Gras Cajun Cookoff on Feb. 6 will be featured on KOTA television during its Friday "Cooking with Eric" program. KOTA, the Rapid City-based ABC affiliate, reaches western South Dakota and into Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska. The station features "Cooking with Eric" on Friday mornings before Good Morning America. ![]() Eric Gardner is a gourmet cook and wine connoisseur, as well as KOTA's morning and noon meteorologist and news anchor. He will feature Deadwood's Mardi Gras Cookoff for KOTA, and the winning chef of the Cajun Cookoff will be featured on his cooking program on four Fridays, March 5-26. Deadwood's Mardi Gras celebration is Feb. 5-6, and the Cajun Cookoff is Saturday, Feb. 6. Other Mardi Gras events include parades, live Zydeco music, King and Queen coronation, cake decorating contest, costume contests and festivities throughout the historic town. Saturday's cookoff features Deadwood's top chefs competing for Mardi Gras honors at locations throughout Deadwood. The contest is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and, along with all Mardi Gras events, is free to participants and visitors looking to taste some fine Cajun cuisine.
