Black Hills News StoriesGo back to News ArticlesUSA Boxing Returns to Deadwood May 29-30Senior and Junior Olympic Regional Tournaments to be held at Deadwood PavilionDEADWOOD (5/14/2010) - The 2010 USA Boxing Senior and Junior Olympic Regional Tournaments return to Deadwood on May 29-30, 2010, at the Deadwood Pavilion.The two-day, two-tournament event will feature state champion boxers from South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming, all competing for the right to advance to the USA National Junior Olympic Championships in Camp Lejeune, N.C. on June 14-19, and to the USA National Senior Championships at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, July 12-17. Several area boxers will compete in the tournament, including Tyrell and Cy Norton of Rapid City's Martinez Boxing Club, Derik Geuke and Zach Myerink, of Belle Fourche's Champion's Choice Boxing Club, and John Montgomery and Paul Whiteface of Lead's Mean Street Boxing Club. Montgomery, who resides in Rapid City, is the 2009 National Native American 165-pound champion and recently won back-to-back South Dakota Golden Gloves titles. Other national caliber athletes participating in the tournament include National Silver Gloves Champion Wrylee Padilla of Rocks Springs, Wyo., and 2008 National PAL Champion and 2009 US National Champion Duran Caferro of Helena, Mont. Saturday night's semi-finals bouts will begin at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. Sunday's championship matches will begin at 2 p.m., with doors opening at 1 p.m..
