Deadwood Mountain Grand advance team goes to work

New Resort to Open in July

DEADWOOD, S.D. (1/17/11) - Deadwood Mountain Grand recently named the advance team to manage the upscale gaming, big-name entertainment and lodging facility, which will open in July. Timothy J. Brown has been named president and general manager and Mary Beth Seamands is director of marketing.

The team is working in temporary Deadwood office space while Deadwood Mountain Grand construction work continues. The historic 1906 Homestake Mining Co. ore processing plant overlooking downtown Deadwood is being converted into 100 hotel rooms, 210 state-of-the-art casino games, an entertainment-and-event center with seating for 2,500 guests and a multi-level parking garage. Crews are completely renovating the structure while retaining its historic mining heritage.

"We look forward to the day we can move into the Deadwood Mountain Grand. It will be exciting to bring top-level entertainment to Deadwood," Brown said. "However, there's a lot to do before July, and we're going to be busy as we prepare for Deadwood Mountain Grand's premier."

Brown is a gaming industry veteran. His career began in hotel operations at Steve Wynn's Golden Nugget and Merv Griffin's Resorts International in Atlantic City, N.J. In 1993 he joined the team that opened the giant Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut. There he oversaw three hotels with 1,400 rooms and suites. Brown later was part of the team that opened the Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel, serving as its vice president of hotel operations. Recently Brown opened the Downstream Casino Resort in Oklahoma, serving as its senior vice president of resort operations.

Seamands recently moved to the Black Hills from Arizona, where she was director of sales and marketing at Westward Look Resort, a historic property in Tucson with 244 guest rooms and spa facilities. She has been in the hospitality industry since 1994, working at Omni, Hilton and Starwood/Sheraton properties. She's been involved in operations, catering, sales and marketing.

The project's partners officially broke ground on the Deadwood Mountain Grand in the spring of 2010. Partners are Nashville's Dale Morris, Marc Oswald and Dwight Wiles, who manage some of Country Music's top national acts, as well as Kenny Alphin of the country duo Big & Rich. Deadwood partners are Mike Gustafson, Ron Wheeler, George Mitchell and Tim Conrad.
